A Window Into the Future: Predicting and Preventing Reading Difficulties with the PEARL

Presented by Douglas Bryan Petersen, PhD, CCC-SLP

DESCRIPTION: Traditional kindergarten early literacy screeners are unable to accurately identify students at risk for future decoding and reading comprehension difficulty. Dynamic assessment is a relatively new assessment approach that has strong evidence of predictive validity for reading and language. In this webinar, participants will learn about the decoding subtest and language subtest of the predictive early assessment of reading and language (PEARL) kindergarten dynamic assessment. Research evidence with over 1000 culturally and linguistically diverse Kindergarten students indicates that the PEARL, which takes less than 10 minutes to administer, can accurately identify decoding and reading comprehension difficulty with over 80% accuracy.
