This 5-hour asynchronous virtual training provides knowledge of how to implement Story Champs® with complete fidelity, covering basic and enhanced story structure. You will learn the evidence behind Story Champs®, walk through the materials of your kit, and learn the explicit teaching procedures that make up the lesson plans for large group, small group, and one on one instruction.

Materials required: Story Champs® 2.0 English OR Story Champs® 2.0 Spanish/English

Topics include:

(1) Research behind narrative language intervention;
(2) Selecting and using Story Champs® lesson plans;
(3) Understanding the different story levels from the storybook;
(4) Basic (Level A) and Enhanced (Level B) story structure;
(5) Explicit teaching procedures of Story Champs®;
(6) Large group, small group, and one on one lesson video examples;
(7) Extending you lessons in the classroom and at home; and
(8) Progress monitoring using the CUBED-3 Narrative Language Measures (NLM)

This 7-hour asynchronous virtual training provides knowledge of how to implement more advanced Story Champs® lessons, moving beyond basic and enhanced story structure. You will learn how to implement lessons that target complex language (i.e., causal and temporal subordinate clauses and modifiers), vocabulary, fictional generation, writing, and expository retells.

Materials required: Story Champs® 2.0 English OR Story Champs® 2.0 Spanish/English

Course prerequisite: Completion of the Intro. to Story Champs® course is recommended (virtual or in-person), but not required. To benefit from this training, you should have 1+ year experience implementing Story Champs Basic and Enhanced story retell and personal generation Master Lesson Plans with high fidelity.

Topics include:

Selecting and using Story Champs® Add On lesson plans
Teaching complex academic language: Causal & temporal subordinate clauses and modifiers
Moving from Enhanced (Level B) to Enhanced Plus (Level c) story structure
Explicit and inferential vocabulary instruction (Spot the Sparkle game)
Teaching written personal and fictional narratives (i.e., text generation)
Assessing narrative writing using the CUBED-3 NLM FLOWCHART
Teaching information retell, information writing, and tier-3 vocabulary and using the ELM Flowchart to measure progress

In this self-paced online course, LDG’s implementation and dissemination professionals will provide explicit instruction for the CUBED-3 Dynamic Decoding Measures (DDM) and Narrative Language Measures (NLM) Listening and Reading. With videos and accompanying workbook and practice activities, you will gain knowledge of the purpose of CUBED-3 use, delivery timeline recommendations, NLM and DDM administration and scoring procedures, and information about how to use CUBED-3 assessment results to inform instruction and intervention.
